Job Title: Program Director

​

Location: New Roads, LA

Position Type: Part-Time (20-30 hrs per week)

Schedule: Work Hours throughout the school year; (Summer Hours have a different schedule)

  • Mondays: Flexible hours for administrative work (3 hrs)

  • Tuesday-Thursday: 2:00-7:30 pm (about 5.5 hrs per day, depending on when final class instructors finish cleaning up)

  • Fridays: Flexible hours for administrative work (3 hrs)

About Us:

Centre for the Arts is a non-profit organization dedicated to arts education. Our mission is to create a safe environment for children and adults to discover, nurture, and expand their artistic abilities. We believe the arts unite people from all backgrounds and transform people and their communities. We offer a range of programs that include group classes in art, musical theater, boxing, tumbling, dance, teen theater, pottery, and sewing. We offer private lessons in piano, voice, guitar, folk instruments, and drums.

Position Overview:

The Program Director is responsible for the overall development, implementation, and evaluation of the Centre’s programs. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills, a deep passion for the arts, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Development and Management:

    • Develop and implement high-quality arts education programs that align with the organization's mission and goals.

    • Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of classes, lessons, and projects.

    • Ensure programs meet the needs of diverse communities and adhere to best practices in arts education.

    • Manage communication with parents and staff to keep all stakeholders informed.

  2. Staff Supervision and Development:

    • Supervise program staff and volunteers.

    • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.

    • Provide ongoing professional development opportunities for staff.

  3. Student Supervision:

    • Overall supervision of students at the Centre; responsible for dealing with any injuries or behavioral issues that may arise that our instructors or other staff members cannot attend to.​

    • Supervise carpool activities

    • Create a warm and welcoming environment for children.

  4. Community Outreach and Partnerships:

    • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, schools, and other stakeholders.

    • Represent the organization at community events and meetings.

    • Develop strategies to increase program participation and visibility in the community.

  5. Evaluation and Reporting:

    • Implement evaluation processes to measure program impact and effectiveness.

    • Prepare regular reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.

    • Use data to inform program improvements and strategic planning.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in arts administration, education, or a related field; or at least 5 years of supervising experience in a related field

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in program management, preferably in a non-profit or arts education setting.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven ability to develop and manage budgets.

  • Experience with fundraising and grant writing.

  • Passion for the arts and commitment to arts education.

Compensation:

  • Hourly wage commensurate with experience starting at $14 per hour

​

Job Title: Musical Theater Instructor

​​

Location: New Roads, LA

Position Type: Part-Time (1 hr teaching time per week)

Schedule: Thursdays from 4-5 pm

​

Position Overview:

Our musical theater instructor will teach weekly group classes, guiding our students in drama-related activities and preparing for our annual Spring Showcase which features two performances of a full-length musical. 

​

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Class Instruction:

  • Prepare weekly lesson plans that is catered to musical theater skills: acting, dance, and singing

  • Execute plans to the best of your ability and ensure that plans are age appropriate.

  • Students need to be aware of class expectations, rules, and plans. Managing class behavior is a key responsibility​​

   2. Showcase:​

  • Work with Centre staff and students to select the Spring Showcase musical

  • Prepare students for auditions, conduct auditions, and cast the play before Thanksgiving.

  • Finalize blocking and choreography by March 13.

  • Tech Rehearsal, Dress Rehearsal, and Showcase dates are mandatory and will be scheduled in advanced with the Program Director

  • Produce 2 Showcase performances on May 3 & 4, 2025.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in drama, music, dance, or a related field; or at least 5 years of experience in a related field

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with school age children.

  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.

Compensation:

  • $8 per student per week of class.

​
